Relationship Minimalization – Family

People may think badly of me for this post. But I’m not trying to be popular. I am trying to be happy.

Sometimes people complicate our lives much more than our possessions do. Eliminating all interaction with people isn’t realistic. But choosing who you spend your time with, will make your life easier and more enjoyable.

What about your family? Are there members of your family that make your life difficult?

A sibling who always needs money? An uncle who questions your parenting skills? A parent that you only see at holidays?

Family members are different, you can’t just walk away from them. Society says we have to talk with them, spend time with them and love them.

<sigh> But we don’t. Make your feelings known, then you control when they see you.

There is blood between you. There will be resentment when you limit their access to you. But be there when they need you. But don’t let them dictate your time. It is your life.

Obligation is a tough one… We all know we can choose our friends, and as such can choose to move on if required. Relationships can be the most draining of all things we encounter in life…

I am completely cut off from my family. After years of mental and emotional abuse, I cut the ties. It’s tough but it had to be done to for the safety of my own little family. Blood relations does not give anyone a free pass to hurt you.

There is no good reason for people to hurt you. Family makes it worse.
