I started to think about what I would do and how I would do things differently from last year.
Last night I was at Half Price Bookstore selling them some books and CDs. So I browsed through their Self-Help section (that is where minimalist books are in real stores). I found four copies of Simplify Your Life: 100 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter by Elaine St. James. This was the first physical book I bought about minimizing my life. It is small and well written. I ended up giving my copy away to a coworker who needed it more that I did. But I also thought that the book would make an excellent gift for others. So I ended up trading the value of my books and CDs in for the four copies on their shelves.
I’ll buy additional copies of the book as the holidays get closer. Then plan on a very minimal gift giving season. Hopefully my friends and family will see the value of the words on the pages and look past the price tag of the season.
