10 Things That Make Me Happy

Laura over at smash your t.v. and have adventures has started doing weekly lists. She describes it as her “personal weekly meditation practice in which I list ten simple, beautiful things in my life”. I loved the idea and decided to do a similar list.

  1. Wine – Over the last few years I have really grown to love wine. I have several people in my life (friends, family and a local wine bar) who have shared their affection with me and it has been very helpful. I no longer feel intimidated when looking for a good bottle. I tend to prefer a Chianti or an Argentine Malbec.
  2. Tea – I worked with an older man from China a few years ago. He introduced to me the joy of loose leaf teas. Now I have a minimum of one cup of tea a day. Usually green or white teas.
  3. Phone Headset – Now that I don’t have a smart phone, the headset has become much more important to me. I went through several inexpensive models before breaking down and buying an expensive one. I would highly recommend spending the extra money to everyone. I use a Plantronics Discovery 975.
  4. Music – Nothing moves my emotions like music. I am constantly searching out new music. But have favorites that I listen to every day.
  5. Quotes – The profound words that people say, inspire me. I collect them.
  6. Daily Phone Conversation with a Close Friend – Its the perfect way to end my day. She makes me laugh, cry and I sleep better after hearing her voice.
  7. Gym Time – This is where I destroy my stress. Who knew that lifting lead could calm the mind.
  8. Chocolate – Do I really have to explain this one? Good chocolate makes me happy!
  9. Movies – I love the alternate reality that a movie can take you to.
  10. Cooking – I have to admit I am not super comfortable in the kitchen. Hell I recently set the smoke detectors off when I burned some garlic toast! But food is important in my life. I don’t like to depend on others to make me happy. Sometimes the smell and taste of a wonderful meal that I made myself, is more rewarding than going out to eat.

I’ll end this post with a quote and a question:

Happiness is like a butterfly. The more you chase it, the more it will elude you. But if you turn your attention to other things, it comes softly and sits on your shoulder. – Henry David Thoreau

What makes you happy?

Thoreau really does have the best words, doesn’t he?

I noticed that a majority of your list includes food, activities, and quality time with people. This is a reminder that the things in life that make us happy are the everyday things we take for granted… not the newest gadget or dozens of pants in the closet.

Great list! Wine will be on a future list of mine. 😉

Just recently found your blog, Marc and I like it!
Lately, I’m finding happiness in the simplest things. Less stuff, less to do, less quantity but the best quality food, and sleeping late.

    Dear Marc,
This is a fantastic list and I’m so happy to see how the energy of abundance is spreading in the world. My own forty days of abundant-mind thinking have almost come to an end and to see this project catching on through cyber space brings me great joy! Keep it up!

What makes me happy is a dream where I fall in love, or someone loves me, but I guess that gets ruined when you wake up. I love writing my stories. I love being complimented by my mother, because she doesn’t do it often when I do a good job, so when she is proud, I feel so happy. And I love God!

Great list! Compliments are sometimes hard for people to say. But you can find good in everyone. Letting them know what you like about them, makes a smile out of nothing.

Dreams are powerful. You will never experience great things in life if you never dream about it first. There is love out there for everyone.

Being gorgeous is not important, being YOU is important. When you stop worrying about being perfect, you can worry about more important things in life. Here is one of my favorite Love quotes:

You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly. – Sam Keen

Laughing makes you and the people around you happy!! 🙂
